November 2003
Somehow sitting around in shorts and penning the November
newsletter doesn’t seem right but who’s complaining?
Thanks to all of you that attended the October meeting,
especially those of you who brought guests. As we all heard from state President David Moore, our
emphasis this year is membership, membership, membership. It is the lifeblood of any industry
based association and as David said, NAHU is the only professional
organization that is directly involved with our future livelihoods. Many of us possess excellent sales
skills when it comes to selling insurance products. If we could borrow only half of that
skill and apply it to recruiting new members, we can help our chapter
continue to meet the high standards set forth for us. PLEASE consider bringing a
prospective member to the next meeting on November 20th.
Speaking of that meeting, remember that we will be having
a 3 hour CE class beginning at 1:30 pm.
Shelly Jacobs of Portamedic will present “How to Prepare Your
Applicant for a Paramedical Exam.”
It is free to all members and only $30 for non-members. Thanks to our friends at Portamedic
for conducting this class. This
meeting will be the first joint meeting of CAHU and WAIFA (Wilmington
Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors). What a great opportunity to meet new people in the
insurance business from our area.
Bring your business cards to this one!
USMC Colonel Hine will join us and give us an update on
Iraq and the Guantanamo Bay prison situation and MetLife will be our sponsor
for the meeting. We should have
a full house for this meeting so get there early! See you there.
DON’T FORGET TO MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR
THE CHRISTMAS PARTY ON DECEMBER 4, 2003. DETAILS TO FOLLOW.

L & L Notes
Hello all from the L &
L Front. Not much of a front
these days with no real activity.
I guess this is the calm before the storm. About the only thing see going on right now is that
everyone is talking about the number of uninsured and that the rates rose
again this year. Tell us
something we don't know, right?
As I see it both sides Democrats and Republicans are gathering their ammo
for the upcoming elections. More
should start happening after the first
of the year. Iraq has had congress tied up for a
while. I guess that is good news
for us in that they are basically leaving our industry alone for a while. Not to worry though, you know that we
all walk around with a target on our backs. It will come!

Membership Update:
Brownie Cordell
Membership continues to be one of NAHU and our Coastal Chapter top
priorities for 2003-2004. Our state president, David Moore, talked about the
importance of getting new members into our organization at our last meeting. We
need our "voice" heard at all governmental levels and this will
happen as we attain more representation (new members) from the insurance
industry. David Moore challenged each of us to contact someone in our
industry and invite them to our meetings and let them know what we are doing
to enhance the profession that pays the bills. He specifically asked that we
contact any State Farm agent that we know and give them a special invitation.
State Farm is paying a portion of the initial cost of their associates
joining NAHU.
We have gotten off to a great start this with 3 new members and
applications sent to four other potential members since our last meeting.
Amanda Smith has sponsored one new member and has two other potential new
members that have been sent applications, Connette Bradley has sponsored a
new member, Ken Ubertini had two potential new members with him at the last
meeting and they have also been sent applications, and David Hill will be
signing up a new member next week. If you have a potential member please call
me (1-910-579-8075) or e-mail me at rbcordell@mindspring.com and I will send
them information about NAHU and an application to fill out.
Don’t forget our award program for new members. You will receive a $20.00
Barnes and Noble Gift Certificate for each new member that you sponsor this
year. As always, please contact me if I can help you with recruiting a new
member. WE ARE GROWING!!!!
